She includes a fair number of illustrations, including a small color plate section, as well as source notes and a bibliography. I’ve long thought of clothing as a form of social signalling, and this book goes through a detailed history languaage how that has worked over the years. It was interesting in spots, but it’s obviously, since it was written in outdated. Also, a lot of c,othes just seemed to be personal opinions, e.

Lurie’s first novel was “Love and Friendship” and its characters were modeled on friends and colleagues. She looks at concealment, at how clothes unite and divide, the decline of the symbolic hat and much more. It’s all completely fascinating. She received an A.
